The mountain has retained a legendary and almost mystical aura throughout the twentieth century. In 1938 Ernest Hemingway enhanced this when he wrote his classic novel, The Snows of Kilimanjaro. On 1st January 2000, a thousand people watched the first sunrise of the new millennium from the peak.
There are seven or eight different routes that people use each year, but two in particular are more popular than all the others put together.

Mount Kilimanjaro standing at 5,895 Metres is indeed the Roof of Africa. It is the highest free standing mountain in the world and highest peak on the African continent and yet its summit is accessible by most well prepared trekkers with good fitness. Six routes up to the summit will take a climber through four ecological zones and breathtaking scenery from the lush mountain forest to the scrub covered moorlands to the rocky alpine desert and finally onto the barren summit of snow and ice.
